Όπως ανακοίνωσε η εταιρεία Six Apart, η πλατφόρμα Moveable Type, μια από τις γνωστότερες και πιο ευρέως χρησιμοποιούμενες πλατφόρμες πάνω στις οποίες βασίζονται τα περισσότερα weblogs του παγκόσμιου ιστού, μετατρέπεται σε open source. Αυτό σημαίνει πως πλέον ο καθένας μπορεί να την μεταβάλλει, να την διανέμει καθώς και να την χρησιμοποιήσει για όποιον σκοπό αυτός επιθυμεί.

Περισσότερες λεπτομέρειες για το Windows XP SP3

Ένας περιορισμένος αριθμός beta testers έλαβε την περασμένη εβδομάδα την πρώτη beta του Service Pack 3 για τα Windows XP και έτσι έγιναν γνωστές περισσότερες λεπτομέρειες γι’ αυτό. Η έκδοση [build] με τον αριθμό 3205 έχει μέγεθος 334,92ΜΒ και περιλαμβάνει 1.073 hotfixes και patches, μαζί με νέες δυνατότητες και στοιχεία, τα περισσότερα από τα οποία προέρχονται από τα Windows Vista.

Ανάμεσα στις βελτιώσεις περιλαμβάνεται ένα νέο σύστημα ενεργοποίησης, το οποίο δε θα απαιτεί το product key κατά τη διάρκεια της εγκατάστασης, και μια λειτουργία προστασίας σχετικά με την πρόσβαση μέσω δικτύου, η οποία έκανε την εμφάνισή της για πρώτη φορά στα Vista. Επίσης, έχει προστεθεί βελτιωμένη υποστήριξη για αλγόριθμους κρυπτογράφησης.

Η διάθεση του SP3 στο ευρύ κοινό έχει προγραμματιστεί για τις αρχές του 2008. Αυτή θα είναι η τελευταία μεγάλη αναβάθμιση για το λειτουργικό που πλέον συμπληρώνει έξι χρόνια ζωής και στο οποίο πρόσφατα δόθηκε παράταση ενσωμάτωσης σε νέους υπολογιστές για πέντε ακόμη μήνες μετά από την ημερομηνία απόσυρσης που είχε οριστεί.

Ever wondered which program has a particular file or directory open? Now you can find out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded.

The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you’ll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you’ll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.

The unique capabilities of Process Explorer make it useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks, and provide insight into the way Windows and applications work.

Process Explorer works on Windows 9x/Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Server 2003, and 64-bit versions of Windows for x64 processors, and Windows Vista.

CPU-Z is a freeware utility that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system. CPU-Z does not need to be installed, just unzip the files in a directory and run the .exe. In order to remove the program, just delete the files and that’s it. The program does not copy any file in any Windows directory, nor write in the registry.
